In the mid 19th Century most European cities were overcrowded, with many large, poor families living in single rooms with poor hygiene. Often these people had come to the city for work in factories, however, in many cases there was not enough housing for everyone. The crowded conditions meant that disease was everywhere. Often the causes of the diseases were not known, and people living in these conditions had little hope of improving their lifestyles. Many children died before they reached their fifth birthday, and many more before the age of twenty.
At this time people were leaving Europe to start new lives in new countries thousands of kilometres away. They were taking great risks, and sea journeys took several months. When they arrived, conditions were primitive and there was little medical assistance, but still they considered it a worthwhile move.
Why do you think people considered the move? Explain your thoughts.

I think that many of them considered the move because of the thought "well it can't be any worse than this!". But also the government in the 18th century would also have had a major influence on these peoples decisions as they would probably receive a large lot of land, servants, money and the title of lord and lady of that block of land. Many of the people died over the transportation conditions of getting over to the new location. As mentioned disease was a big problem especially on ships as it can travel quicker with big amounts of people in a small area, but generally the quality of travel was so appalling that many died simply of that (hygiene, food sheer size of numbers, and others). Of course the Government kept these facts from the people and basically brainwashed them into thinking that their life would be perfect and the people believed that until they actually started traveling the security (if any) would hush up any complaints if any arose (most people would be to afraid to complain).
Basically i am saying it was probably better in the long run than if they had stayed in their previous location.
I think people would of considered the move to get away from the crowded city with disease. I personally would consider the move if it meant getting away from the diseases.Since it was quite dangerous traveling the disease would have to be very bad to force me to move however. If I already had the disease I wouldn't move because otherwise it could spread to the other city.
Well I think It was a very good idea to move and most of the family's moved away from the big poor cites and bad hygiene so they could get a better life stile and to raise a good and healthy family. People could have also moved because they might have wanted a bigger house and to get some space to live in not in single roomed houses with very bad hygiene and bad disease going every way with so many people in a small area. Also people might have wanted there family's and children to live a better and longer life.

Personally I would consider leaving town and travelling. However, since the travelling was very dangerous it would have to very bad to make me flee overseas. If I already had the sickness then I wouldn't risk spreading the disease. Also, it would be an issue for poor people to provide money for the trip. Since it was only in the 19th century the resources would be very bad and you wouldn't know what exactly was wrong with you. You would get more assistance overseas but still I think it would be quite a big decision to move.
I think people considered the move because if everyone is getting sick and dieing why would you wanyt to live there. And if I was a parent i would want my children to live to an older age than 5. The llifestyles wouldnt be able to improve either if they stayed over there so I think to move would of been a great idea
I think personlay that it was a right desishion to move away but why couldnt the people that had houses let the less fortunate into there house to stay and so they dont get a disese from the streets or city animals But from the staitments there right cause a lot of people where dieing.
The reason why ithink that the europeans would benefit and concider the move are as follows.
The good things about move would be the diseaes would spread more slowly and the crowding in the rooms would be dicreased hugly if the people were staying in single homes or hutts. Even though the medical assitance was not great it would be better than having none, it was probably good enough to help heal minor health injuaries.
The only down side would be that you would have to pay and to have a ride there and it would be dangerous
I think that people considered the move because there was too much people in Europe. Too much people meant that there wouldn't be enough accommodation and lots of people would live in a tiny area. There wouldn't be enough food for everyone and most people wouldn't be able to afford it. If you moved to another country there would be a lot of land and you could harvest fruit and vegetables.
i think that hard times when their is disease that going away on sea voyages is risky but it is aslo smart if you stay you will probably get ill but if ou go away you might die but if you dont you can start your life fresh. I think modern day hard times is when a family member dies of maybe if a kid loses their pet. in the poorer countries they are getting people to go to schol free and feeding them their
What i think about all of those people from Europe moving to countries around the world with smaller populations is that is was the right thing to do as if those people stayed there any longer they would most definitely have caught the disease. Also the people moving away could have slowed the speading of the disease.
I think that they should of built the cities bigger back then to make more work and room for less fortunite people so they could live and work. The famlies who moved would be starters of new movment and places to work and live in the country which was good and less deasise which would have been good if there where plauges and flu's. If they made these voages cheap they would have been able to get rid of the sick people to a better enviroment and less deaths in there new land they could make and start over there lives.
I think it was a good idea to move and most of the families might have considered to move away from the big crowded cites that were causing many diseases. They could get a better life style and maybe raise a big, good and also a healthy family. Some people might have also moved so they could have a better, bigger and more hygienic house than living in an cramped place or sleeping on the footpath. there could be also other reasons such as.
These rich people shouldn't have moved, because these people would of held up the buissness and paying these people but people who wern't high excullsive owners of buisness with an idea and outdoor and building people with there famlies ready to build a future and new place for people to live and work. This would have been good and they could vist thought long rides which would have been better if whole familes moved together to that this was done and made propelly.
I think that it was a very good thing they left at the time beacuse it meant that they were happy to get away to a differnt place and it would also help if the citys were not as crowed as there would be less people so there would be more jobs. And so I think that it was a good move!!! I personaly would move to a differnt place if I was in those conditions because when you got there it would be a whole new adventure!!!
i think people will consider to move because of the disease and crowded city. i would personaly move away beacuse i wouldn't like to die at the age of 15 and 20. u could also move to another countrey so you can rase a family and hrvist crops and fruit
