Buskers

Buskey earn money by performing in public places, usually outdoors. If passers-by like the performance, they may drop money into a hat or a container that the busker puts out.

Buskers perform a range of acts usch as dancing, juggling, playing music, pretending to be statues, doing magic tricks, miming or singing.

Some will follow people, imitating the way they walk and their actions. Some will wrtie a personalised poem for you for a small fee.

Buskers are more commonly seen in summer and while moste people would say that they are a great asset, that they bring colour and laughter to the streets, or that their music is enjoyable, others think they are a nuisnace or that they ought to get a real job.

For full time buskers, it is a real job. They travel around the country and overseas ot large busking festivals. There they can comapre themselves with others and have the opporutunity to gather new ideas for their acts.

Do you think busing would be a good way of life? Explain your thoughts?

I think busking is a good job but only if you have the skill. It is no use to a have someone on the street singing really badly. Buskers could make lots of money if their talented. I also say that Busking shouldn't be classified as a real job because you don't have to have a degree or anything. It should be a career and Buskers should be able to do more than one thing.

I think that the buskers should only use it as a part time job because you can,t live on mony that you get by people dropping
50c just to be nice. so no you can't be a full time busker

Ayden Lamont said...

No i dont think being a Busker would be a good way of life. This is because the would only get about 20c every now and again. This would not be near the amount they would earn if they had a real job!

JACK MARKS said...

This is not a good way of life because every day your are only earning tiny amounts of money.

If you dont have a job and cant get one you could try this temporarily but not a full time job.

i think it wouldn't be a good life being a busker because people mightn't like there music so they would get no money and then they will get poor

No I dont think that it would be a good way to live your life. They dont get much and the are literally scabbing or locals. Lets say they only get 20c every now and then, That is not enough for a person to live of.

I do think its worth it becuase they still make a living out of it and make people enjoy walking around shopping centers and streets so I think it would be worth it to be a busker because for them its a real job and they like it

some buskers only do it for a short period of time to earn some money but there are some buskers that do it for a charity or world peace so I personnaly think that busking is worth while

I think that busking would get little money, therefore making it difficult to make a living, especially if the busker has an instrument that needs maintainance. Also the fact that the amount of money you make is up to you and how you perform. Most people enjoy watching buskers though, so maybe it is not such a bad life if you enjoy uplifting people.

I think that it is a good idea but only for a short period of time. however it is not a good idea to go out busking all day. they could only make $5 an hour but if they hit a peak high they could make up to $50 an hour. but if they got a normal job then they would have a more steady income and they can still do busking as a hobby if they want to

yes I do think busking would be a good way of making money certainly if you have some good tricks and talents. I have seen my friend busk and he got a good amount of money in just one hour. I think it is a great way to earn money if you cant find a job.

Matthew said...

No i do not think this would be a very good way of life, because if there acts are not very good or they really have no talent they could not make much money. And there is no actual proper pay they are counting on the generosity of the public.

Sam W said...

Busking would be good to raise money for charity or a fundraiser, but would not earn enough to make a living off. Buskers should get a job, if they don't already have one, and busk on times when they don't have to work. Full time buskers might earn enough but that's only because they would be paid to travel to festivals or competitions.

Nicholas M said...

Yes it would be because you could make money quicker than having to settle for about 50c a day when you go to work. In genral this could be a good idea for people that live out the street to try cause then they could make some money and buy themsleves the food and water they need. Everyone would find this a easyer way to make money than just go to and sit at a computer and only get about $3a week.

You earn a little bit of extra money from being a busker. It would be fun and a decent way to make friends, travel your country, travel the world even to go to large busking festivals. It would also keep your reflexes up if you juggle with fire which some people do. When you busk, depending on the crowd you might get $50 or you might get $200. It's just like being in the United States of America or Canada, where you have to tip the waiter/waitress. Basically you are a waiter in the States (but not that boring).

I think that it really dependes on what the buskers are good at if they are only good at what ever there busking act is then i say good on them but if they are good at somthing more achedimec then the best desision as far as money is concerned would proply to get a better job.
the may make our streets coulerful and more exiting but is it realy worth or entertainment to stop a man or women from getting on with there life.

I don't THINK busking is a good way of life - I KNOW it is. Because I am a busker :)
Unlike many of you here think, buskers don't do what they do for the money. Sure, the money is most welcome and it helps, but real buskers busk for the love of busking. Busking is a totally different experience than stage performing. I don't know a single busker who doesn't also performs on the "legitimate" stage. I played at Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Lincoln Center, etc., and at the same time I also chose to busk. Not because I have to, but because I want to. No I don't think that being a busker would be a good way of life, I sometimes think they are a bit of a nuisiance because they block up the most important parts of the streets.

Buskers usually do most of there work during the summer because people are not likely to watch there shows because it is cold or rainy during the winter. Then they would have to make enough money to travel to warmer areas to keep working.

In addition, it wouldn't be a good life with no regular amount of pay or money coming in. They are just relying on the money that the people throw into your hat or container, sometimes this is only a few coins that really don't go far.

A good busker needs to have an act or a performance that is different from the others, that will catch peoples attention long enough for them to put money in your hat. Being a pretend statue would not only be boring, but if people kept walking past you and totally ignoring you and your talent, they might not even notice your hat or container either, meaning there would be no pay from those people.

Buskers who follow people and imitate the way they walk and their actions could insult and embarass alot of people, which is mean and not likely tog get them much money.

It would be hard for buskers to have to carry all their heavy equipment around with them all the time. It would be quite annoying carrying a bag full of equipment around all day with you. I think some buskers would have very awkward things to carry around with them too like musical instruments, micrpohones and amplifiers for the singers and musicians, juggling sticks, bikes, ladders and even a chainsaw!

Overall I don't think it would be an easy or an enjoyable life being a busker.

I think that it would be a good way of life and I am completely for it I once busked and it was really fun the other reason why I think that it is worthwhile is because if you are good at something and you busk with that skill it helps you practice it with a motivation which is the money and while you are doing this you hopefully are making other people happy because you are making them happy by singing a cheerful song or something else nice it also gives you a chance to travel as it states in the text that they travel all over the world to large busking festivals also busking is a great way to build up your confidence and give you more self esteem it will also help you overcome fears of performing in front of people sometimes people might want to join in with you and in this case you will also be bringing joy to the person who has joined in with you sure you might get the odd insult here and there but you still get money and joy out of it another reason why I am all for the idea of busking and for all those who say that you busking is not a professional job they are wrong there are heaps of professional buskers who earn up to one hundred dollars a day and I am sure that there is a few people out there who think that there is no skill to it well sorry to burst your bubble but there is did you know there has been over a thousand books written worldwide on how to busk, tips for busking and what to expect when you busk and many more. Now I close my argument on why busking is worthwhile.

I think its good that they do busking and doing things they love for a living and it brings a great vibe to our communities and they get quite good money to live off and there is great festivals for it overseas and the people enjoy it and tourists love our country because of our environment and atmosphere round town and busking is a great way to do that. Also the buskers can become the newest stars in music if a big music producers walks past and they see them and they could make them big stars. Its also is good for the New Zealand music industry because we have such good buskers . Some people might say that they can’t earn a living off it but they can if they love it and are good at it they can earn loads when you watch buskers they usually have signs saying I need this much money da da da because da da da please help and when you watch people walk past they are dropping about $2 every 8 ish people and they could easily make enough if they were in a busy enough place with lots of people with money for shopping for instance Sylvia park there is lots of people shopping for clothes, books, going to movies and lots more also there is lots around farmers markets where people are shopping for groceries and things like the other week I saw an amazing busker who sounded like brooke fraser and was saving for a ba in music at otago university who I think could be a professional and my mum gave me three dollars to put in the guitar case and I saw lots of people putting in money at the end after about an hour and a bit there wa at least 100 dollars in change.

We have been asked to write a response to the blog, Buskers. I am going to write first about all of the reasons why being a busker is a good job and then all the reasons it isn't.

I think being a busker would be a good career because it would be a fun job or hobby to have. On holidays like Christmas or Easter a busker would earn a decent amount of money. One time I went to a Christmas light show and there were some teenagers playing Christmas songs double time and they had around fifty to eighty dollars in their guitar case. Busking would keep you from an office where you are usually inside most of the day, to enjoying yourself outside meeting people and also to get some exercise. Another good thing about busking is that it is not just about making money, it is also about making people laugh. If buskers went to a big festival they could learn new ideas and take them home to see if the crowds enjoy them.

Some of the disadvantages of busking would be that they might not have a proper job to back them up if they don’t get enough money busking part time or full time each day. If it is raining for a few days a busker might not have enough money for a living and run out of food to eat. If a busker has to pay his/her bills it is likely that they will not have enough money to pay them. If you are a busker you should have a job that you can go to so you can earn a decent amount of money to live on.

Overall I think being a busker would be a fun way to earn a living but also to have a job that started halfway through the day so you would have enough money to buy food etc. If you are a busker you might only be doing it for having people enjoy themselves.

I believe that busking is a good yet hard way of life, as you have to be very talented and good at performing in front of crowds. There are four reasons to busk these reasons are A) get better at performing in front of people, B)To busk to get money for themselves, C) just to perform and brighten up other people’s day, D) to raise money for charities like World vision or fundraise for the poor and needy.
Even though buskers may enjoy brightening up other people’s day they might still find that being a full time busker is very hard as they may be criticized or mocked. There also is the fact that they are said very rather stereotypically called poor, but here are the good side to things is busking is totally different from stage performing, the amount of people who are part of the art of busking is decreasing very rapidly. The two reasons why buskers get money is because that they are extremely talented, or that you feel sorry for them, but it usually a bit of both. If you are a busker there is a chance that people might snob you, mainly because they might think that they are higher in the society than you (isn’t that a laugh). I believe that busking is a good but extremely hard lifestyle with the criticism and I guess the minimum pay check may make it a bit hard to live. So overall this is the reason why think busking is a good and even slightly enjoyable lifestyle despite all the downfalls like the criticism and the minimum hourly pay check.

I think that busking all the time for a living would be a very difficult and challenging way of life. This is because you have to rely on the public’s generosity and as the text says they may drop their money into a hat or container so you can make a living or they may not.
You would need to earn a reasonable amount of money from busking to cover food, rent and clothing and then depending on what kind of busking you do you would need to spend money on mending an instrument or paper and pencils for poem writing or items to do magic tricks with or juggle with.
Some people find buskers a nuisance because they do not like your kind or music or the act that you do. So instead of giving you money they might yell at you and tell you to get a real job instead of busking. I find my brother following me and copying my actions very annoying without him wanting to be paid so people could find you wanting to be paid for this even more annoying.
With so many buskers in the world it would be very hard to win competitions and travelling to festivals and competitions costs a lot of money so if you are only average you may not win any prizes or money for going to them.
Also the best and probably only time to busk is in the summer meaning that in the winter you have to either find a different job which you would have to have the skills to do and could have done in the summer or try to survive on the left over money that you will have had to have saved. Overall I think that busking all the time as your job would be challenging and a hard way of life. I definitely think that buskers ought to get a real job and not a job I would like to have.

I think its o good idea for a part time job just to get a bit of money in your pocket and it would be quite fun to just to show off your talents to the world on the street but not really for a full time job because you can’t live on the money that they give you cause people only drop coins in the hat or container and also the money that they get wouldn’t even be near to the money that they could get if they had a real and good job. Busking is a good talent to have because so you can show people your talent ant teach them your skill. Also sometimes people wouldn’t like your act and then you wouldn’t get any money but People still like people acting on front of them when they are shopping so they can Liston to music or watch people juggle or stuff like that and I guess it’s their choice to what they do for a job and how they do it and maybe they have always wanted to do that for their job so it’s all their choice to what they do it maybe they do it because they like seeing the smile on the ardencies faces and I’m sure most of them have another job to. I probably wouldn’t mind if I was a busker but I would want another job to. Some buskers do it for a charity work and stuff like that they do it for all different reasons like some do it to make money for their family and some do it for a fundraiser and lots of different things. There is also a chance that you could get mugged and also you would have to pay for all your trips around the country and then you would lose all your money because you would have to pay for the trip and also After a while you would get bored if it and then not want to do it anymore then some buskers wouldn’t have another job to go to. Then there would be no money to pay for the food or family then you would just be going downhill from there in till you got a job so as you can see I’m on a bit of each side because there would be plusses and minuses being a busker as it said in the text I wouldn’t mind being a busker but i would like to have another job to.

william li said...

I think that busking will not be a good way of life. I have 2 points to prove.
Firstly, when busking you only get tips and change it will be barely enough for you to survive. I think that buskers should get a job and go busking in their spare time or fundraising as a hobby. Also if their good at it they could earn some money going on trips and competing.
Secondly some people on streets are trouble makers and you could get seriously injured. It is dangerous to perform in a street crowd and some people will look down on you.
So to sum this up I think that busking will not earn you a lot of money, it is dangerous to perform on the street and it is not a good way of life.

Ben Paanakker said...

Lots of people think that being a busker would be a good way of making a living, but I disagree with this. I think it could be great fun, but very difficult to make a decent living from busking. People are often happy to watch or listen, but not necessarily give you any money - so they just see a free show. You need to be very talented at what you perform so that you attract large crowds. You need to be smart about where you perform e.g. open areas where large numbers of people pass by. You also need to get people involved in your performance. So your act needs to get their attention, be fun and maybe involve risk taking. You need to be able to persuade your audience that what they have seen is a great show, so that they are generous when they put their hands in their pockets.
I think there are not that many people who could do this successfully enough to make a living from it.
As buskers are mainly seen around towns and cities during the summer they need to earn a huge amount of money to live off during the quieter winter months. Or they need to earn enough to travel to the opposite side of the world during winter. This would also be expensive, as you would need to have enough money to afford to live in foreign countries.
It would be great fun going to busking festivals, if you could afford it. However there would always be people who are better performers who would attract a bigger audience, and their money. It would be a great way of spending time with other performers and learning new stunts, tricks and jokes which may help in the long run to improve your performance.
Being a busker would be good fun part time, but only possible for a very few, very clever and talented people to make enough money to live off.

No, I do not think that busking is a good way of life because in the text it states that some people say they ought to get a real job, this meaning an office Job or something like that, not singing on the streets. People thinking this probably means that they don’t enjoy the performances and less people means less money.
Some of the Jobs stated in the text may disturb the public because of the loud noises such as singing or dancing, this meaning that if you do start busking you must be actually quite good at the thing you are doing, or you could get in trouble with all of the public which could stop you busking career.
It also states in the text that some people will follow people around imitating their actions, or some will write a poem for a small fee. This is a rip off because you are paying for a little bit of writing on a small piece of paper and when those silly people who follow you around imitating you, it could really get on your nerves because you are probably in a rush to somewhere so you can be there on time.
It says in the text that Buskers usually come out in the summer so this way they can’t make lots of money because they won’t come out much to collect the money from the pass byers.

Buskers are ordinary people who perform on the side of the road who perform for money they can either do dancing, juggling, playing music, pretending to be statues, doing magic tricks, miming or singing or more that they can think of! Some people could think you are a nuisance and they think you should get an actual job, but some people think they are great for street entertainment.
Buskers do not get a very reliable income because your performance could be not so good, the street could be crowded, no one gives you money, there is no one on the street or there could be lots of people a lot of things happening to change your income from a very small income to a very large one.
If you are a talented person and you start busking for you could get lucky and someone famous passes by and notices you could get a job and you could become famous yourself like Justin Bieber.
The weather could be good if it is make the most of it because you never know what would happen tomorrow. If it’s raining you probably won’t make so much money, so you should take a rest. It could be too hot and it could affect your performance, it could be too cold and no one would be on the street.
Buskers are fun to interact with when you are walking down the street and also it is still fun to watch them from the side of the crowd enjoying their performance.
Buskers bring life and colour to the street and of course entertainment some people think that buskers bring life to the street. Amazing magic tricks, great music, spectacular dancing and much more buskers would make your day if they did something nice to you so why don’t you something nice for them.
I don’t think that busking is a good way of life because you don’t get a lot of money/it is an unreliable income the weather could be very bad so you won’t get any money at all.

Buskers
I don’t believe that busking is a good lifestyle because of the following reasons.
Firstly, you would not make as near the money as if you were in the modern business world or any other worker, even at a takeaway shop. Because not to many people may pay you and even some people find it annoying like me, because some buskers just do something annoying like following you and taping you on the shoulder repeatedly sometimes.
Secondly, buskers don’t make that much money because probably the most money you are likely make in a week is $100, when if you work in an office you may make $300 or $200 in a week. Another reason is that when travelling you have to pay for your transportation and the place you stay at, that would take half of the money you have earned so you would have a poor life style to live with.
Thirdly, you can have a bad environment like people could say things like “oi get a real job idiot” or even worse (swear words). And this is what I hate about the job the chance of getting bird poop on your shoulder, think about it, stand still for most of the time and you make a good target for birds.
Finally, the one way you will you will make money is by doing something people love to see and hear and do it really good! Like playing good music on the guitar or other instruments but you will need to know a good and popular song like Hotel California by the Eagles. This song will be liked by older people how are more likely to have more money and give you it
So in conclusion. You know that you won’t make that much money and lose a bit by choice.

I think busking is a good way of life for some people – but I don’t think it would suit me! To be a busker you need to love performing for people and not be too worried about making money. If I was a busker I would have to play my guitar – and I can only play one piece of music nicely. I think I should stay at school and hope that I find something that I’m good at.

I think busking would be an enjoyable life performing in front of crowds. Although I wouldn’t expect buskers to make lots of money it would still be a cool life seeing different places and people as part of your job. Some buskers are good enough to go overseas and travel to different places to perform at things such as a “large busking festival” which would be a great experience meeting other entertainers from different parts of the world. In the text it mentioned that they “are a great asset” and that “they bring colour and laughter” it also mentioned that “their music is enjoyable. Busking would be a good way to travel around the world and see lots of national landmarks and things like that but still be working. In the writing it said some people “think they are a nuisance” but they must not like great entertainment. Buskers are very talented at their given skill and probably have practised for their whole lives. It is also quite amazing the things they can do. A great thing about buskers is that they don’t cost a lot to enjoy, and not at all if you think they are no good. Buskers can perform in lots of different ways; an example of this is where in the text it said that “some will write a personalised poem for a small fee”. They can also “perform a range of acts such as dancing, juggling, playing music, pretending to be statues, doing magic tricks, miming or singing”. They are very talented people and I do think busking would be a good life because of all the reasons stated in the text.
